Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are sites with batteries, that store excess energy from the grid and deliver energy back in times of demand.

Batteries help manage peak in demand and supply on the local distribution grid network – being able to charge and discharge electrical energy from/to the grid at short notice and reduce the need for gas powered and other fossil fuelled standby generation. This thereby reduces the risks of local black and brown-outs. They reduce overall reliance on imported electricity, oil and gas from overseas thereby increasing energy independence and improving energy security.
