Solar parks use photovoltaic (PV) panels, harness the sun’s energy and convert it into electricity that is sent to the electrical grid for distribution and consumption.

A solar park of this size will generate a significant amount of electricity from renewable sources, therefore offsetting the need for power generation from the combustion of fossil fuels including coal and oil. Consequently, during its operational lifespan the proposed development has the potential to displace electricity generated from fossil fuels and consequently represents carbon savings.

Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are sites with batteries, that store excess energy from the grid and deliver energy back in times of demand.

Batteries help manage peak in demand and supply on the local distribution grid network – being able to charge and discharge electrical energy from/to the grid at short notice and reduce the need for gas powered and other fossil fuelled standby generations. This thereby reduces the risk of local black and brown-outs. They reduce overall reliance on imported electricity, oil and gas from overseas thereby increasing energy independence and improving energy security.

Solar parks and energy storage systems assist with the transition to a low carbon energy grid with improvements to the local environment and looks to address the Climate Emergency and the UK’s Net Zero by 2050 commitments.
