Raskelf Solar Park, on land at Village Farm, Raskelf, York, YO61 4PN, is a circa 30MW Solar Park developed by Gridsource, in partnership with Sky UK Developments Limited from first principles.

We are proposing to submit a full planning application for Raskelf Solar Park in the coming months. Before a formal planning application is submitted, we are committed to ensuring that the local community are informed and fully understand the plans for the project.

W HA T  A R E  S O L A R   F A R M S  A N D  W H Y  A R E  T H E Y  N E E D E D ?

Solar Farms use photovoltaic (PV) panels, harness the sun’s energy and convert it into electricity that is sent to the electrical grid for distribution and consumption.

A solar farm of this size will generate a significant amount of electricity from renewable sources, therefore offsetting the need for power generation from the combustion of fossil fuels including coal and oil. Consequently, during its operational lifespan the proposed development has the potential to displace electricity generated from fossil fuels and consequently represents carbon savings.

Solar farms assist with the transition to a low carbon energy grid with improvements to the local environment and looks to address the Climate Emergency and the UK’s Net Zero by 2050 commitments
