⚡12MW / 24MWh

Woburn Road Energy Storage

Project Overview

Woburn Road Energy Storage is a 12MW / 24 MWh energy storage plant, developed by Gridsource from first principles.

During the development phase, Gridsource managed all aspects such as landowner/agent engagement, grid connection feasibility/engagement including application, land/ legal agreements, planning survey / application co-ordination plus community engagement, which resulted in receiving full planning approval during 2021.

Gridsource are currently managing the tender phase with approved and accredited suppliers / contractors alongside discharging any pre-commencement planning conditions and plan to have the Plant operational during 2024.

The plant will participate in wholesale market trading, charging the batteries when demand on the electricity network is at it’s lowest, and exporting it when demand is at it’s highest. The plant will also provide balancing services to the National Grid, who are responsible for balancing supply and demand perfectly at all times.

Battery Storage – Journey to Net Zero

Battery storage is an essential part of the UK’s journey to net zero, providing vital flexibility to the electricity grid.

As we move towards a renewables dominated electricity system, balancing services are needed so we can store electricity when wind and solar energy are abundant and release it during peak times when consumer usage increases.
